Need medical care? Seek prompt advice from a qualified clinician for new, severe or worsening symptoms. A legal enquiry should not delay treatment.
What this guide covers
A breast reduction may affect shape, sensation and healing. This focused guide covers informed consent, a proposed revision and the evidence needed to assess possible compensation after surgery in Turkey.
A medical complication and legal responsibility are different questions. The assessment depends on the clinical history, information given before treatment, standard of care, causation and actual loss.
Which outcomes need clinical assessment?
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists asymmetry, poor wound healing, sensation changes, possible inability to breastfeed, tissue loss and revision surgery among breast-reduction risks. These outcomes require medical context. A complication, even a serious one, does not by itself establish negligent treatment.
- Seek appropriate care for wound problems, infection symptoms or other concerning changes.
- Ask a clinician to document the current condition, likely causes and proposed care.
- Preserve photographs at dated intervals without relying on images alone to diagnose the problem.
What did consent cover?
Review the discussion of the planned reduction, expected shape, scar placement, sensation, breastfeeding, tissue and wound risks, and possible revision. A signature does not answer what was explained, when, or in what language. Compare the consent record with consultation notes, messages and the surgery actually performed.
Revision surgery and compensation
If revision is proposed, obtain a written assessment of whether it is medically indicated, what it would address, timing, alternatives and an itemized estimate. Keep proof of the original procedure cost and later expenses. A refund, revision offer or payment is not automatic; the legal basis, causation and evidence must be reviewed. Our compensation guide explains the categories of loss.
- Do not sign a broad release before understanding what rights it may affect.
- Preserve all clinic communications, including any promises about correcting the result.
- Ask for the full operative record, pathology if relevant, consent and postoperative notes.
How this guide relates to our service page
Our breast reduction malpractice service page covers the general route to case review. This article focuses on consent, revision decisions and financial evidence. For an individual opinion, a lawyer and appropriate clinician need to review the complete file.
Patient rights and legal review in Turkey
The Turkish Patient Rights Regulation addresses information, consent and access to records. The exact claim route and deadlines depend on the provider relationship and the facts. An independent medical assessment may be needed before a lawyer can advise whether treatment or aftercare fell below the applicable standard. See the Patient Rights Regulation (Ministry of Justice).
If there is a viable claim, the value is not determined by the name of the procedure. Documented treatment expense, income impact and other proven effects are considered under the relevant legal rules. Read how compensation is assessed for a fuller explanation.
