Informed Consent

Turkish: Aydınlatılmış Onam

Informed consent is the patient's decision after receiving understandable information relevant to the proposed intervention. The review concerns the explanation and decision-making process, not merely whether a form carries a signature.

What Informed Consent means in a Turkish medical case

The practical question is what information was provided about the procedure, material risks, alternatives and likely course, in which language, at what time, and whether the patient could ask questions freely.

The content required depends on the intervention and the patient's circumstances. A generic form may be evidence, but it does not by itself establish the quality or timing of the explanation.

Questions patients often ask

Does a signed form prove I received an adequate explanation?

A signature is evidence of signing. The form, consultation notes, language, timing and opportunity to ask questions help show whether the explanation supported an informed decision.
